Covering a cherry tree with a net

Question

I have a cherry tree growing on my porch. Am I allowed to cover it with a net?

Answer

Rabbi Moshe Bloom

If you do not cover the fruit with a net all of the cherries will be eaten by animals, so this is permitted.

In my opinion, it is even preferable: this will make sure that fruit stays on the tree and in this way you can perform the mitzvah of "and the produce of the land sabbatical year will be for you to eat."
