Types of Visits

Family visit

Includes an introduction to Torah VeHa'aretz Institute, the Visitors’ Center, and the Garden of Mitzvot.
Visitors tour the Visitors' Center and then go outside to the botanical Garden of Mitzvot.

Families receive a visitor’s pack and tour the garden independently with the guidebook.

Duration: 90–120 minutes

Additional learning options

  • Planting workshop on kilei zera'im. Participants take home a cardbord planter with two plants.
  • Educational film about terumotma'aserot: Clementino the Detective (Underdos; Hebrew with English subtitles).
  • Hands-on terumotma’aserot workshop from vegetables in the Garden of Mitzvot.
  • Hafrashat challah workshop.
  • Photo-opp: Dress-up as farmers or pilgrims making their way to Jerusalem and take photos with baskets of the Seven Species.
  • Lectures on the laws of orlah, kilayim, terumot and ma’aserot, or challah.
  • ClickIt competitive game about the land-dependent mitzvot with prizes!
  • Bounce house - regular and with soap suds

High school and post-high school students

For these groups, including seminaries and yeshivot, visits include:

  • A guided tour of the Visitors' Center
  • Guided tour of the Garden of Mitzvot
  • Treasure hunt in the Garden of Mitzvot (with prizes!)
  • Pick and make-your-own havdalah spices and tea bag
  • Hands-on terumot & ma'aserot workshop using vegetables from the Garden of Mitzvot
  • Competitive ClickIt game (with prizes!)

It is also possible to incorporate the additional learning opportunities listed above, and the tours and activities below. 

Tours and activities: 

  • Shatil Neto seedling nursery (near Gevaram): See up close how vegetable seedlings are produced.
  • Alei Katif insect-free vegetable plant: Tour the factory, lean up close how insect-free vegetables are produced today, sit in the kashrut lab, see how the vegetables are packaged, and end with tasting some of the produce.
  • Etrog orchard tour: The orchard is near Kfar Maimon (up to 60 students)
  • ODT activity on the subject of the land-dependent mitzvot in the Garden of Mitzvot or the Eucalyptus Grove.

Film (high school. post-high school teens and women): Inspiring documentary film A Fire is Burning in Jericho accompanied by a discussion with the director. The film is in Hebrew with English subtitles; the discussion is in English.

Group Visits

(For extended families, communities, rabbis, educators, retirees, and other organized groups)

Each group visit is custom planned with a dedicated guide.

Duration: 2¼ hours to a full day

Short visits include:

  • Introduction to Torah Veha'aretz Institute
  • Guided tour of the Visitors’ Center
  • In-depth tour of the Garden of Mitzvot          

Optional additions for adult groups:

  • Practical workshops on terumotma’aserot or challah 
  • Lectures on gardening laws, orlah, kilayim, and modern Israeli agriculture
  • Historical lectures on Gush Katif and Kfar Darom
  • Aleh Katif insect-free vegetables factory tour and tasting
  • ODT (outdoor training) programs related to land-dependent mitzvot or Israeli history
  • Walking tours: Old Nitzan (3 hrs), New Nitzan (1½ hrs), or Heroism in the Gaza Envelope (guided tour to Gaza Envelope communities)
