Grafting peaches onto a nectarine

Question

If I were to graft on peaches, would that be fine as it is the same species as nectarine, or it is as if I'm grafting onto the rootstock again, and would therefore be not permitted?

Answer

Rabbi Moshe Bloom

Nectarines and peach are considered the same halachic species and may be grafted onto each other (see our chart). Note, though, that in general we avoid creating "fruit bowl trees" where there are two types of fruits that look different growing on the same tree, due to marit ayin.
