Beit HaOtzar Fund for Terumot and Ma’aesrot
A unique fund that enables members to observe the laws of terumot and ma’aserot in the most optimal fashion
Beit HaOtzar Fund for Terumot and Ma’aserot is a unique public service fund that enables members to observe the laws of separating terumot and ma’aserot in the most optimal fashion.
Beit HaOtzar, founded in 5775 (1995) by Torah VeHa’aretz Institute, is headed by leading Torah scholars who are experts in the field. All halachic guidelines provided by Beit HaOtzar are based on the decisions of Rabbi Ya’akov Ariel, former chief rabbi of Ramat Gan and president of Torah VeHa’aretz Institute. The fund is run by the rabbis of Torah VeHa’aretz Institute, headed by Rabbi Yehuda HaLevy Amichay.
Beit HaOtzar was established to increase awareness of the halachot involved in separating terumot and ma’aserot, while providing practical ways of performing the mitzva of netina, actually giving the ma’aserot to the appropriate destination. Beit HaOtzar facilitates giving ma’aser rishon to a Levite throughout the years preceding shemita; ma’aser ani to the poor in the appropriate years; and redeeming ma’aser sheni and neta revay when necessary. In this way, we hope to reinstate the observance of these mitzvot.
Members of Beit HaOtzar receive the following services:
- A coin for redeeming ma’aser sheni and neta revay, handled by the rabbis of Torah VeHa’aretz Institute. Perutot are prepared for every member every day to redeem the sanctity of ma’aser sheni in fruits and vegetables.
- A loan to a Levite for giving ma’aser rishon.
- A loan to a tzedaka committee for giving ma’aser ani.
