Rosh Chodesh Shevat Learning Event for Women on the Mitzvot Hateluyot Ba'aretz

OU Israel will be holding a women's learning event dedicated to the mitzvot hateluyot ba'aretz. Shoshan Raiz, from our English Department, will be giving over a hands-on workshop on terumot and ma'aserot.

The Jerusalem event: Hamerchav Hachevrati 161 Yaffo St. 

Ramat Beit Shemesh Event: Beit Midrash Torani Leumi, 5 Reuven St.

Torah VeHa'aretz Institute Annual Conference and Gala Tu BiShevat Seder

Conference schedule

Session I: The Future of Agriculture – Challenges and Solutions

A discussion on the challenges of kilayim in modern agriculture and the impact of drones and robotic technologies. Speakers include institute rabbis, Rabbi Yaakov Ariel, and a senior agricultural technology advisor from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Session II: Mishnayot Peah and the Agricultural-Halachic Encyclopedia

Presentation of the new book and discussion with the author, Rabbi David Eigner, followed by Dr. Moshe Raanan, expert in Talmudic flora and fauna.

Session III: Israeli Agriculture and the Agricultural Farms

  • The essence of Tu Bishevat
  • A film on the lone agricultural farms of Judea and Samaria
  • Halachic challenges facing modern farms
  • Grazing livestock on Shabbat
  • Branding Israeli agricultural produce
  • Israeli agriculture and reducing the cost of living
  • Olive harvesting in abandoned non-Jewish orchards and the laws of terumot and ma’aserot

Featuring institute rabbis, government ministers, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, and additional guest speakers.

For groups only (20 plus; smaller groups for an added fee): Guided tour in English of the Visitors' Center and Garden of Mitzvot with English movies and exhibits, followed by a workshop or Kahoot! game.
