Grafted Jamaican cherry tree

Question

I would like to plant a Jamaican cherry tree (גרגר פנמה in Hebrew). I was told that the tree might be grafted. Could this present an issue of forbidden grafts? From what I understand, the tree is sold at Marmelstein Nursery, which I saw on your list of supervised nurseries.

Answer

Dr. Mordechai Shomron, agronomist | Tevet 5786

I am not aware of any forbidden grafts involving Jamaican cherry trees. If you are purchasing the tree from Marmelstein Nursery (or any of our supervised nurseries), it is advisable to ask them about the grafting method, just to be certain.

Please also note that Jamaican cherry trees bear fruit during the orlah years, and fruit harvested during this period is forbidden for consumption or any benefit.
