Taking ma’aserot from garden-grown mint
Question
Do I need to take ma’aserot from the mint growing in my garden that I use to make tea?
Answer
Dr. Mordechai Shomron, Agronomist
You should set aside terumot and ma’aserot without a blessing from mint leaves used for preparing tea. It goes without saying that you should also examine the leaves thoroughly for insects. To ensure that your tea is insect-free, you can put the tea leaves in a cloth sachet or tea filter bags, and then seep it in the hot water.
