Taking ma’aserot from pine nuts
Question
My four-year-old son collects pine nuts that fall under the trees and also brings them into the house.
- Are they subject to terumot and ma’aserot?
- If so, how do I prevent him from eating them first before taking terumot and ma’aserot?
Answer
Rabbi Yehuda HaLevy Amichay
Generally these pine nuts are ownerless (hefker) and exempt from terumot and ma’aserot. If they are from someone’s personal garden, however, terumot and ma’aserot should be taken.
