Terumot & Ma’aserot

Separating terumot and ma'aserot from home hydroponically grown produce

Rabbi Moshe Bloom, II Adar 5784

I recently bought a hydroponics kit for my porch. Do fruits/vegetables that grow have the same halachot for shemitah, terumot, ma'aserot, neta revay, orlah? Also, which berachot would be said? Still ha’eitz or ha’adamah or shehakol?

Separating terumot and ma'aserot from unripe avocados

Rabbi Moshe Bloom, Adar 5784

I picked about 10 avocados last week and brought them home. Do I have to wait till they are soft and tasty to separate terumot and ma'aserot? I think you can eat them unripe though they are not tasty.
But if I cut an unripe one for terumot and ma'aserot, I will have to throw away part since once cut,  avocados no longer ripen.
Also what do they do in supermarkets where terumot and ma'aserot have been taken but the avocados still need a week or 2 before they ripen and can be eaten?

Beit HaOtzar - The optimal way to take terumot and ma’aserot

Rabbi Moshe Bloom

Is it true that there is an arrangement where I pay money and terumot and ma’aserot are taken on my behalf?

Redeeming ma’ser sheni in Jerusalem’s Old City

Rabbi Ehud Ahituv

I live in the Old City in Jerusalem. What do I do with my ma’aser sheni?

Determining the ma’aser year for fruit that blooms early

Rabbi Yoel Friedemann

Loquat and almond trees bloom early, some before Tu BiShevat, and some afterwards. How do I take teruma and ma’aser from these fruit?

Giving ma’aser ani today: here’s a half-an-orange to help you out?!

Rabbi Moshe Bloom

How can I actually give my ma’aser ani? It’s not really practical to find poor people each time I pick a few oranges from my tree to give them a slice.

Is it OK to snack on fruits or vegetables growing in a hothouse without taking teruma and ma’aser?

Rabbi Dov Landau

My question is as follows: Does the rule of “seeing the inside of the house,” apply to crops grown in a hothouse, meaning that it would it be forbidden to snack on fruit or vegetables in the hothouse without first taking teruma and ma’aser?

During the shemita year, we heard that many poskim view hothouses as a house for halachic purposes.

Bringing fruit into the house through the window

Rabbi Yoel Friedemann

Fruit brought into the house through the window is not subject to the obligation of separating teruma and ma’aser. I live in a private house, though, and the fruit first goes into my yard and only after that is brought through the window. Is the fruit still exempt from teruma and ma’aser in this case, too?

Taking terumot and ma’aserot from seeds

Rabbi Yehuda HaLevy Amichay

I grow several vegetables in my garden such as string beans, peas, and potatoes. Sometimes I take all or some of the seeds to plant the next round of crops in my garden.

1) Am I supposed to take ma’aser from the seeds before planting, or does ma’aser only apply to edible produce?

2) If there is an obligation of taking ma’aser at this point, do I need to take ma’aser from seeds I buy at a nursery?
