Growing sprouts at home during Shemitah
Question
Can I grow sprouts during Shemithah?
Answer
Rabbi Moshe Bloom
🌱 It is permissible to grow various sprouts indoors for eating: on a net, cotton, or in a container with water or soil.
👉 If you are using water or soil as growing strata, do not sprout several types of legumes/seeds together.
Sprout each type separately to avoid the prohibition of kila'im (interplanting diverse species).
According to most opinions, such sprouts are exempt from terumot and ma'aserot and do not have kedushat shevi'it.
🏠 It is permitted to grow sprouts this year indoors only. Do not grow sprouts in a garden or on an uncovered balcony.
