Repotting during shemitah
Question
Is it permissible to put a plant in a new planter when the old planter broke?
Answer
Rabbi David Eigner
For planter on a shaded porch with a floor, it permissible to repot the plant in a new planter. In this case, it is even permissible to repot it in a larger planter.
If the porch is tiled or covered in cement, and the like, but is not shaded, it is permissible to repot the plant in a like-sized planter.
If the porch is not shaded, tiled, or covered, it is permissible to repot the plant only if the planter itself is placed on a plate that detaches it from the ground.
