Heter mechirah is a halachic solution to facilitate continued agricultural activities during the shemitah year, in extenuating circumstances, per without transgressing shemitah prohibitions. This sale makes possible agricultural activities with the soil, trees, and produce and makes it possible to harvest on a commercial scale.
